Here at Sigma Chi-Ottawa, we are actively engaged in many different philanthropic initiatives. As we aspire to be student leaders on campus, we dedicate most of our efforts to running our most successful events (Derby Days and Homeless for the Homeless).
Our 2019 Derby Days Challenge Winners- Tri Delta
Derby Days is a week-long competition for sororities on campus which raises money for the Huntsman Cancer Institute and the Children’s Hospital for Eastern Ontario. Brothers serve as “Derby Dads” who assist sorority teams to achieving their objectives. We are always thankful to all of the sororities for all of their hard work and dedication over the years
Homeless for the Homeless
Jack, Gautam, and Sam outside raising funds for the Ottawa Mission
Homeless for the Homeless is our annual 72 hour winter camp-out which serves to raise awareness for the Ottawa Mission (local men’s shelter). Brothers rotate throughout the 72 hours with only their winter clothes, tent, and food donations from members of the communities.
Huntsman's Cancer Institute
On April 12, 2013, Sigma Chi members presented the one-millionth dollar raised for cancer research at Huntsman Cancer Institute to Significant Sig and Order of Constantine Sig Jon M. Huntsman, Sr.,PENNNSYLVANIA 1959. In December 2012, Sigma Chi designated the Huntsman Cancer Foundation as its sole preferred philanthropic partner.
Founded by Huntsman, the Huntsman Cancer Institute is dedicated to finding the causes of cancer, developing new and better treatments, and preventing people from ever developing cancer. Huntsman founded HCI to focus on understanding cancer from its very beginnings and to translate this knowledge into safer and more effective treaments. HCI was chosen as Sigma Chi’s preferred philanthropy because many Sigs and their families have been directly affected by cancer.
Brothers at a bake sale on the University of Ottawa Campus to support Movember and Alopecia Awareness
Here at Sigma Chi- Ottawa, we are also involved with many other smaller community service and philanthropic initiatives such as Movember, Merlen Olsen Day of Service, sandwich making at the Ottawa Mission among many more. We also strive to support brothers in their personal philanthropic initiatives as well as those organized by fellow members of the Greek community.
We truly believe in the service of others and improving our community one contribution at a time.
